Fourth spot signed sealed and delivered (Writes Penzance Reserves joint manager, Daz Smith)...
Yesterday, our Reserves headed to Constantine in our penultimate league fixture of the season. We needed to gain two points from our remaining two fixtures to guarantee fourth spot in the league, and thankfully secured our position with yesterday's result.
Copy, paste and repeat were management's orders after an emphatic win last week at home to Constantine.
Joel, Tyler, and Reevesy were the three notable absentees through injury and work respectively, but otherwise , a full squad was available for selection.
A first half ultimately secured the win as we raced into a three nil lead. Adam Lewis got us off to a flyer thanks to some nice build up play from Fin, Freddie and Ewan as he slammed home the opener, before moments later Kizzy doubled our lead as Constantine failed to clear a cross.
The in form Fin, who was playing in the number 10 role then pressed the Constantine centre back and nicked the ball before calmly slotting past the keeper putting us three up and into cruise control.
Halftime quickly came and it was a pretty straight forward team talk. More of the same and a clean sheet was now the target.
However Constantine were not quite dead and buried as a curling cross dropped in at the far post before Connor raced clear and put us four one up on the hour mark.
Again though, Constantine grabbed another goal back as we appeared to drop off for fifteen minutes.
However, one more goal saw us re-establish our three goal cushion thanks to Fin sliding Sam through. Sam proceeded to drill a low shot in off the far post sealing the win for the Reserves.
Fulltime.
Yesterday we wanted to secure fourth spot without relying on other results and we did. The first half was particularly good, and perhaps the second half we took our foot of the gas a little and let Constantine back into the game for a spell, but with a very creative hard working team, we will always create something. Having five different goal scorers yesterday shows that we are a threat from all areas going forward, and aren't solely reliant on one player to score, which is also nice to see.
Man of the match yesterday has to go to the impressive Fin Sharp. Fin has really upped his game in recent weeks and is repaying the faith shown in him with some really good performances.
The lads now face a tough end to the season next week away to promotion chasing Redruth.
Kick off will be at the earlier time of 1.30pm due to both Redruth teams being fixtured home games.
Fulltime result: Constantine 2-5 Penzance Reserves
