MAGPIES FACE LAUNCESTON CHALLENGE

After a three week break since beating Holsworthy, Penzance return to action this afternoon when they welcome Launceston to Penlee Park (kick off 3pm).

The Clarets sit a place below the Magpies in the table but with games in hand, so victory is imperative to Penzance's top half ambitions.“Things are pretty simple for us,” says Ashley Waters. “Four games left and twelve points on offer, and we want to take them all. Looking at the table, sixth place has to be the target.” However, the Magpies manager must push towards that lofty goal without a number of key players who are injured, so Reserve team midfielder Adam Lewis has been handed a first call-up to the senior squad.

Remaining Fixtures

Penzance are unbeaten in four matches but their visitors, under the guidance of manager Neil Price, a former Watford left-back who appeared in the 1984 FA Cup final against Everton, are on an even better run. Launceston last tasted defeat away to title-challenging St Austell in January, and have won all four of their matches since. The two teams fought out an entertaining 3-3 draw at Pennygillam earlier in the season, so a good contest should await today.

Admission is £5 (concessions £3) and the gates open at around 2.15pm – the Jewson Bar will be open earlier. Drinks and refreshments, including hot pasties, will be available from the Black & White Cafe inside the ground.

The matchday programme – the Magpie Review – will also be on sale for £1.50 providing pre-match reading.

After the match, a Race Night will be held in the clubhouse. Betting opens at 6.30pm for the first of ten races at 7pm. Food will be available, so why not come make a full day of it.
