Penzance Reserves finished up their home games for this season with a 5 star performance, ending a tough run of games over the last month writes Henry Ramsay. For the third game in a row they scored within the first 120 seconds, with the quickest of the season so far. Luke Carroll smashed home a Bernado Braga pass after some great link-up play to see his side 1-0 up within 45 seconds.
Going with the wind in the first half, it was completely one way traffic as Penzance sat in the Falmouth half and built attack after attack, while being patient in possession. The 37th minute saw Asa Donaldson score his first goal for Penzance, thanks to an intricate through ball from Bernardo Braga. And just before the break he got his second. It was Elliot Carveth’s turn to slide in Donaldson at the back post, where he was able to control and smash home into the bottom right corner, on his preferred left foot.
There were no changes at the break, and the second half started the same style with Penzance again having the lion’s share of possession. However, George Harry capitalised on an over the top ball to put Falmouth back in the match in the 59th minute.
This did not deter the Magpies. A double substitution out wide saw Donaldson and Mark Sands make way for Ashley Mead and returning clubman Reece Evans, and the latter managed to score on his first match back. Hustling and bustling onto a Kizzy Snowden through ball, the wing-back found a yard or two on the edge of the box, and smashed home, right into the top corner marking his return to Penzance after six years away.
Victor Mullaly, on for Carroll, wrapped up the scoring. The substitute, back after a two week absence, managed to beat the keeper to a through ball played up and across the back line by Evans, and walk it into an empty net.
“I’m absolutely over the moon with today's performance, I think the lads were superb,” said manager Daz Smith. “We are in a very good place now. It's been a really tough month fixture-wise, and I asked them to go out and show the supporters what they can do, and I think they did today! Goals are coming from all over the pitch which is very positive and the lads deserve credit for their togetherness and fight for one another as it's now reflecting in our performances regularly."
