PENZANCE RESERVES 5, MAWNAN RESERVES 0

Today we welcomed Mawnan Reserves to Penlee in another league fixture (writes joint Penzance Reserves Manager, Daz Smith).

With again pretty much a full squad to choose from, we also welcomed new signing Ewan Trevains to the fold in Ollie Rawlins absence.

A 4-5-1 formation was the choice, as we were quite aware that Mawnan score plenty of goals.

Harvie started in goal , with a back four of Lewis, Steve, Sam and Matt.

A midfield trio of Kai, Freddie and Joel with Tyler and Adam on the wings , and Kizzy starting up top was our selection.

A quick start coupled with a good workmanlike attitude was the management's orders.

And that is exactly what we got. Tyler fired us into the lead early on thanks to some superb work from Adam on the wing. Adam beat his man, and squared the ball for Tyler to tap home from close range putting us one nil up.

However minutes later Kai wasn't feeling well and needed a break and so we opted for a straight swap and introduced Ewan for his Penlee debut.

On 15 minutes a sweeping free kick from Freddie found the impressive Joel at the back post. Joel's grit and power saw him ride a challenge before forcing his way through and tapping home putting us two up.

Halftime 2-0

More of the same was the orders at halftime whilst gently reminding our lads it's only halftime.

We expected Mawnan to come out in the second half with all guns blazing but quite frankly we looked more than comfortable. We knew the first ten minutes in the second half would be crucial, so if we could keep it tight whilst probing for a third goal, we could hopefully see the game out.

Fortunately the lads did. Our defense stood strong and our attacking players did what they do best.

Some top build up play from Freddie and Ewan saw Tyler again bundle his way through for a one vs one. Tyler managed to get to the ball first and poke the ball home putting us three to the good.

A few changes were then made. Kai returned to the play for Tyler on the right wing, Payno replaced Joel in central midfield , before Fin came on for Adam on the left wing. Finally Henry replaced Steve at centre back. Two more goals for our Reserves were to follow.

Firstly, some more great midfield work saw Kizzy race through before calmly rounding the Mawnan keeper, putting us 4 up. Kai then broke down the left wing before shaping for the far post. However Kai cleverly whipped his effort into the near post leaving the keeper no chance sealing all three points for the Reserves.

Today, we played some absolutely lovely football. The team were fantastic from back to front. Every single player gave their all and at times it was just like watching Barcelona of old. Patience of play , excellent ball retention, whilst some unselfish play saw us dominate large parts of the game.

We as managers are so proud of the lads today. They executed our plan to the letter today and at times played some scintillating football. Equally as important to the goals was a clean sheet that was thoroughly deserved.

Penzance Reserves: Harvie Paramore, Matt Robinson, Lewis Hitchens, Ewan Trevains, James Payne, Kai Baxter, Tyler Smith, Sam Payne, Adam Lewis, Kizzy Snowden, Freddie Neaum, Fin Sharp, Steve Miller, Harvey Ritchings, Henry Ramsey, Joel Keen.

There's no man of the match this week, as there were far too many top displays and almost impossible to single even three contenders out.
