UNDER-18s CELEBRATE SUCCESS
On Sunday 2nd August, Penzance’s outgoing Under-18s team finally managed to get everyone together for a small presentation to celebrate the successful 2025-26 season. The league championship was secured at the end of May, and it proved difficult to find a date that suited everyone, but ultimately a fantastic afternoon was enjoyed by all.
The Magpies went into the final game, away to Culdrose on May 17th, knowing only a win would guarantee them the title. But they made no mistake, recording a resounding 12-1 victory. Hayden Waters led the way with a hat-trick whilst Logan Curnow, Victor Mullaly and Dan May all bagged braces. The other goals were scored by Lewis Stephens, Rohan Bennetts and Harry Morton.
The match also proved a last in youth football for manager Justin Stephens after 12 years with Penzance Youth. Justin takes up the story: “The afternoon gave me the opportunity to thank all of the players as well as Scoff (Bryan Scoffin). And of course all other coaches I have worked with, and all our partners, for their incredible support over the years, and for the trust they placed in me to work with such a talented group of young players.
“We’ve created some unforgettable memories together. My greatest achievement, however, isn’t the trophies or the titles — it’s seeing the boys who started with us as Under-7s grow into outstanding young men, many of whom are thankfully still involved in the game.
“I can’t thank everyone at Penzance Youth enough, especially Darren and Sue, for everything they’ve done — not only for me but for every player and team throughout the youth set-up over the past two decades. Their commitment and dedication have been nothing short of incredible.
“A huge thank you also goes to everyone at Penzance AFC over the last few years, particularly Godfrey whose support has meant so much to me. It has been brilliant to see the club recognise the importance of developing young talent, encouraging players to progress through to Penlee Park, and welcoming so many into the senior teams.”
In turn, Penzance AFC would like to thank Justin for his hard work and dedication to the cause which have resulted in so many players graduating to senior football.
