WEEKEND ROUND-UP – YOUTH TEAMS

It was another very busy weekend for our various youth teams.

The Under-7s Jaguars played Helston Athletic, with the Under-9s Cosmo travelling to take on Falmouth United and the Under-11s Aliens hosting Illogan RBL. At Newlyn Coombe, the Under-13 Titans were beaten 0-4 by Goonhavern whilst the Under-14s Appollos went down 0-3 to Probus.

Sunday was a hugely successful day at Under-16s level with two victories. In the Championship West the Comets, playing into a very strong wind blowing down the Coombe, found themselves two down at the break at home to Mousehole Hawks despite twice hitting the woodwork. With the elements in their favour in the second half, Steve Davy’s team clawed themselves back to parity thanks to a brace from Harry Payne before Jed Willis struck a fine winner in the closing stages.

Later in the day, the Jets attracted another large crowd to Penlee Park for the visit of Illogan RBL in the Premiership. Dom Hodges fired them into an early lead with Logan Curnow doubling the advantage following a corner. The goal of the game came just before the break, Dom Scoffin skilfully creating himself space before clipping home a fine left foot shot.

Illogan hit back strongly in the second half, reducing the arrears with a headed home corner. However, Hodges popped up with his second goal of the game in injury-time to wrap up a 4-1 win.
