Penzance withstood the late dismissal of captain Tyler Tonkin, the remaining ten players seeing out the last twenty minutes to pick up a valuable point and deny Dobwalls top spot in the table.
The Magpies introduced new signing from Mousehole Ryan Townson into central midfield, and the teams traded chances during an open and entertaining first half. Fed by Kaycee Ogwu, CJay Pritchard tested visiting goalkeeper Mikey Flores with a low shot. At the other end, Sam Young teed up Tonkin to stretch James Morley with a fierce drive from the edge of the box.
During a breathless passage of play, Morley then denied Charlie Willis, sprawling to his left to claw out the midfielder’s shot before Dobwalls countered at pace, the move ending with Ogwu firing against a post. It rough luck for the marauding left winger who had earlier also hit the crossbar, and Penzance capitalised by making the breakthrough in the 40th minute. Curtis Smith expertly turned to create himself space before tucking home his first competitive goal since signing from Hayle.Â
Dobwalls surged back after the break. Charlie Castlehouse fired just wide before himself grabbing the equaliser in the 52nd minute. On for debutant Townson, Jacob Trudgeon had Penzance’s best chance of the half after being set up by Archie Reynolds but was thwarted by a Morley save. The home side were generally on top though, especially after Tonkin’s dismissal for a second bookable foul, the Magpies were indebted to Flores for a string of fine saves, the most eye-catching of which denied Josh Johnson, as the held out for a deserved draw.
