Last Saturday saw the young Reserves head to Penryn College to face a good footballing side in the shape of Falmouth United.
Five regulars were missing however, so the return of Josh Reeves was very well timed. With both teams trying to play a passing game, the opening was a little cagey. Fortunately, on around 25 minutes, a clever through pass from Fin Sharp saw Kizzy Snowden race through to slide home the first goal.
Chances were pretty limited at both ends with the majority of the game being battled out in the middle third. Steve Miller had a blinder at the back as he seemed to thrive against the home player-manager in an interesting physical dual.
Falmouth came out for the second half with guns blazing. Five minutes in, the unwell Tyler Smith was forced off to be replaced by Chaz Reynolds on the left wing. Shortly afterwards, the home centre forward ran on to a through ball and lobbed the on-rushing Harvie Paramore, but Miller, who shared the Man of the Match award with Snowden, was on hand to race back and clear off the line stopping an almost certain goal.
Moments later a superb near post reaction save from Paramore saw Falmouth earn a corner. But, from the cleared flag kick, the Magpies counter-attacked to grab a second, nerve-settling goal. A lofted clearance from Miller saw Snowden battle through and, after bit of confusion between the Falmouth keeper and centre back, he tapped in his second.
Reeves, with a tightening hamstring, was replaced by Henry Ramsay who slotted in at left-back, Lewis Hitchens moving in to centre back partnering Miller. And, with about ten minutes to play, some excellent work from the impressive midfield trio of Ewan Trevains, Kai Baxter and Sharp allowed Snowden to once more go through one-on-one with the Falmouth keeper. He sealed his his hat-trick ensuring a safe return of all three points to Penlee Park.
