MAGPIES VERSUS MAGPIES AT PENLEE

Cornish Magpies take on Devon Magpies this afternoon when Penzance look to extend an unbeaten run to four matches as they welcome Holsworthy to Penlee Park for a Kitchen Kit South West Peninsula League fixture (kick-off 3pm).

With popular Lithuanian striker Rolandos Samnauskas having temporarily moved to Iceland for work, Michael Fitchett is recalled by Magpies manager Ashley Waters. Daniel May, who debuted last week against Camelford, keeps his place. He is joined in the squad by two other members of Penzance’s successful Under-16 Jets side – defenders Charlie Palmer and Ashley Mead. Will Trenoweth, Archie Reynolds, Mark Vercesi, Alfie Turner, Liam Andrew, Ollie Butler, Kam Collins, Charlie Willis, Tyler Tonkin (Captain), Silas Sullivan, Jacob Trudgeon and Gareth Ireson-Ward make up the sixteen.

Holsworthy are paying their first visit since 2018-19 after a four season sojourn in the Eastern section of the league. They will be looking for a double after defeating Penzance 2-0 at Upcott Field on a swelteringly hot late summer’s afternoon. “In the previous encounter, early doors we were poor and they deserved the three points,” recalls Waters. “Consistency has been a problem for us. However, with recent performances we are growing as a side and Holsworthy will be up against a Penzance team who are playing with confidence and belief. We’ll be fired up and ready to get all three points.”

Visiting manager Ryan Hall has named his squad as Ryan Chadwick, Gavin Carter, Cory Sargeant  Jake McClean, Jedd Pecshke (Captain), Lee Clarke, Aidan Slade, Ryan Buckland, Ben Waters, Jack Tribble, Jacob Nosworthy  Gary Clarke, Lewis Haxell, Jamie Ball, Reece Caglar and Nathan Slade.

Admission is £5 (concessions £3) and the gates open at around 2.15pm – the Jewson Bar will be open earlier. Drinks and refreshments, including hot pasties, will be available from the Black & White Cafe inside the ground. The matchday programme – the Magpie Review – will also be on sale for £1.50 providing pre-match reading.

See you there!
