PENZANCE 4, LUDGVAN 0

Three goals inside three crazy minutes just before the break gave Penzance a win over near neighbours Ludgvan at a very soggy Penlee Park.

The Magpies started fast with a series of attacks in the opening minutes, and took an 11th minute lead with Oscar Massey bagging his first goal for the club – a cool finish past advancing Hurlers keeper Jonathan Fitchett.

With Tyler Dayus firing over a string of telling crosses from the left, the visitors enjoyed a good period and Mikey Flores accomplished some good saves, most notably from Henry Cousins. Ashley Waters made five substitutions in the 25th minute, and it was three of the new arrivals who combined to deliver the second goal shortly before the break. Matt Robinson fired over a low cross from the right that was dummied by Obinna Abuka leaving Ollie Butler clear to nab his second goal of pre-season. Robinson then got on the score-sheet himself, sliding in at the far post to finish off a tidy move.

There was still time before the turn-around for the Magpies to add a fourth. Rolandos Samnauskas was tripped by Fitchett just inside the penalty box, and picked himself up to slam the spot-kick to the keeper’s left.

Waters made a further four changes for the second half and, though his side monopolised possession, no further goals were added. Kevin Lawrence twice went very close and Michael Fitchett, who replaced Samnauskas, was denied by a brilliant save. The substitute did finally get the ball past his brother in the closing stages, but the Ludgvan keeper was rescued by an offside flag.
