PENZANCE LOOK TO EXTEND RUN

Penzance will look to make it four home wins out of four in the Kitchen Kit South West Peninsula League when Dobwalls visit Penlee Park this afternoon (kick-off 3pm).

The Lantoom Park side will, however, provide the Magpies with their toughest test on their own patch this season having made an impressive start to the campaign in both the league and FA Vase, from which they have already removed two Step Five teams.

Penzance go into the match fresh from their own Cup success – Tuesday’s highly impressive victory over Wadebridge Town in the First Round of the Ward Williams Cornwall Senior Cup. “We were outstanding, producing some great stuff with exceptional work off the ball,” reflects manager Ashley Waters. “We have now set a benchmark in our season and cannot let standards drop. If we can produce that energy every week this team will turn over a lot of sides.”

However, one of the stars of that display will be missing as young striker Oscar Massey makes his debut for Barnstaple Town having dual-registered with the Western League outfit. Also missing, through injury, are Mark Vercesi and Kevin Lawrence. That means Obinna Abuka and, for the first time this season, Anthony Nicholas are called into a squad that also includes Mikey Flores, Archie Reynolds, Tyler Tonkin, Frazer Cadman, Alfie Turner, Charlie Willis, Jacon Trudgeon, Kam Collins, Rolandos Samnauskas, Michael Fitchett, Silas Sullivan, Ollie Butler and Matt James.

“Today’s game will be another big test against a Dobwalls team who will be physical and will hurt us if we don’t show the same commitment as the other night,” concludes Waters.

Admission is £5 (concessions £3). Drinks and refreshments, including hot pasties, will be available from the Black & White Cafe inside the ground. The Jewson Bar will be open from lunchtime and a full matchday programme with be available for £1.50.

Don’t forget, today’s game will be the last first team fixture to be staged before Penlee Park is temporarily closed for the stand re-roofing, so come on down for a final football fix on home soil before November.
