Penzance Reserves moved back into the top half of the table, a well-taken late goal sealing a third successive win at Penlee Park writes James Wright.
Will Symons and Adam Lewis were drafted into the starting line-up, and the Magpies made a bright start with Kizzy Snowden denied by a fine save by visiting keeper Ollie Barr. Ollie Butler was then off target with a speculative shot as the home side continued to press.
A mazy run in from wide of the left by Snowden ended with a defender blocking the Penzance captain’s shot. A testing deep free-kick by Hayden Water’s presented Snowden with another opening, but a defender smothered the top scorer’s volley behind for a corner.
The introduction of youngsters Joe Gordon and Fin Sharp added extra energy after the break. But the visitors kept Penzance out until the 77th minute when Waters ran on to Sharp’s fine through ball and ripped a left foot shot into the roof of Barr’s net from a narrowing angle.
Camborne School of Mines pressed hard in the final ten minutes but, on the counter-attack, Waters nearly grabbed a second from another good Sharp pass, pulling his shot inches wide of the far post.
“The boys are absolutely buzzing – they worked their socks off,” said manager Daz Smith “It probably wasn’t the best game to watch as a neutral but we are really pleased. They have put a lot of work in at training and the commitment is getting better every week.”
