PENZANCE RESERVES, 1 REDRUTH UNITED RESERVES 3

Penzance never recovered from the concession of two early goals as they slipped to defeat in difficult conditions at Penlee Park.

After five minutes, a corner from the right found its way to Jake Williams who fired home at the far post. Then, just three minutes later, a wonder strike by Zack Heard from over twenty years out put Redruth in complete control.

The Magpies found their feet gradually, but failed to fashion any clear openings until after the turn-around when Kizzy Snowden was twice denied by good saves. Set-up by Freddie Neaum, Lewis Hitchens also tested the Redruth keeper with a good shot from distance.

With seventeen minutes to go, Matt Collins made the game safe for the visitors, ripping an excellent angled drive just inside the far post after good work down the left by Dario Pisano. Aiden Treloar then had two chances to extend the lead further, just missing with one low shot, then being denied by an excellent save by Jake Hitchens, again deputising in goal for injured Harvie Paramore.

The home side snatched a consolation goal two minutes from time, recent signing Henry Ramsay heading in his first goal for the club from a corner from the left.

“The first twenty minutes were our downfall,” said Penzance joint manager Daz Smith. “We started slowly and were second to every ball. Conceding two early goals killed us, and we faced an uphill battle. But I felt for large spells we were the better team. Against a physical side, we asked our lads to move the ball quickly. However, with the pitch deteriorating it suited them more and we couldn't play our usual game and create enough clear chances. That being said, there were positives today and we'll look to focus on those rather than over-analysing a performance on a very muddy Penlee Park.”
