PENZANCE RESERVES 1, TROON 1

A late Kizzy Snowden goal rescued a point for Penzance in an entertaining Tuesday night St Piran League fixture at Penlee Park.

After consecutive away defeats at Porthleven and Illogan, the Magpies were bolstered by the midweek availability of Kam Collins, and the all-action midfielder was inches away from converting corners from both the right (by Snowden) and left (by Adam Lewis) in the opening stages. However, the visitors shaded the first half and should have taken the lead when Oscar Johns fired over when left unmarked at the far post.

Marauding down the right flank, Troon’s Mthokozisi Sibanda wreaked havoc for Penzance all night. After having a first half effort disallowed for offside, then slamming a shot against the cross-bar after the turnaround, Sibanda got the goal he richly deserved in the 66th minute, slotting home a low shot.

Another player who had seen an earlier strike chalked off for offside salvaged a point for the home team in the closing stages. Perennial top scorer Snowden ran on to a long ball over the top by Tjay Price and applied a confident trademark finish to give his side their fourth point of the season.

“Frustrated is how we felt after this evening’s result,” admitted joint manager Daz Smith. “The first half for me was below par. We were trying the right things, it just wasn't clicking and we were a little slow in possession. The second half was better, although at times we perhaps lacked a slight bit of killer instinct in the final third. That said, Adrian Murley made some good saves on his return to Penlee and in the grand scheme of things, a draw was probably a fair result. Man of the Match has to go to Ewan Trevains. He put in a massive shift, in central midfield and was involved in a lot of our build-up play.”

Penzance: Adrian Murley, Lewis Hitchens, Henry Ramsay (Ashley Mead 60), Steve Miller (Sam Payne 71), Josh Reeves, Kam Collins, Tjay Price, Ewan Trevains (Treddie Neaum 79), Kizzy Snowden, Adam Lewis (Harvey Richings 60), Joe Gordon (Tyler Smith 46)

Referee: Ian Pattison
