PENZANCE RESERVES 4, FROGPOOL & CUSGARNE 1

Today we welcomed Frogpool and Cusgarne to Penlee Park in our league fixture.

With almost a full squad to choose from, for the first time of the season (writes Penzance Reserves joint manager, Daz Smith).

Matt Robinson returned from injury as did keeper Harvie. Reevesy is almost ready to return and was the only noticeable absentee.

With a very young starting line up, we opted for: Harvie in goal, a back three of Lewis, Steve, and Matt. A central midfield trio of Kai, Sam and Freddie, with Adam and Tyler on the wings. Fin started in the number 10 roll, with Kizzy up top.

Payno, Joel, Henry, Ollie and Harvey started from the bench.

Intensity and speed of play whilst maintaining good shape was the orders from management.

Thankfully, we started well. After approximately two minutes Adam broke down the right wing before crossing. Kizzy read the flight of the ball well and a mix up between their keeper and centre back gifted Kizzy the opportunity to chest the ball past the keeper before tapping home.

1-0

Ten minutes later, a corner fell to Freddie on the edge of the box. He wasted little time in teeing the ball up , before slamming the ball home thanks to a deflection wrong footing the keeper.

2-0

Approximately ten minutes later, a lapse in concentration defensively saw the Frogpool winger curl a superb effort into the far corner pulling one back for the visitors.

2-1

Moments later, Tyler scored quite possibly one of his best goals in a Penzance shirt to date.

Cutting in from the left after bamboozling the full back, Tyler curled his superb effort into the very top corner leaving the keeper rooted to the spot, putting us two goals to the good once more.

3-1 and Halftime.

At halftime, we spoke of simplifying the game, whilst looking after the ball better.

The game was there for us, but the first ten minutes of the second half were crucial.

Tyler's game was over after feeling unwell at halftime and so Harvey started the second half in his place.

With chances at both ends not taken we were forced to wait until late for the final goal of the game.

But that wasn't until Harvie saved well in a one vs one situation at our end before the attacker failed to take the second opportunity and blazed over from close range.

The last goal was one that the supporters would have enjoyed. Joel replaced Fin and cleverly slotted a through ball for Harvey to race onto. Harvey again turned the full back inside out before drilling a cross to the back post where Adam tapped home capping an emphatic display from the Reserves and sealing all three important points in the process.

4-1 and Full-time.

A much better collective display today from the lads today, where we didn't allow the bullying to effect our game. We kept playing out game and at times played some superb football.

There were several top performers today, Kai worked his socks off in the middle of the park, whist Fin and Freddie linked up really well in the forward areas. Tyler and Harvey both put in massive performances on the wings, but today's man of the match has to go to Adam.

Adam was top drawer and rightfully takes the award. An assist and a goal as well as a 10/10 performance sees him claim the award. But collectively a much better display all round from the lads so well done all.
