PERRANWELL RESERVES 2, PENZANCE RESERVES 5

Yesterday , our young reserves made the trip to Perranwell Reserves as we looked to put Wednesdays lacklustre display behind us whilst aiming to grab our first three points of the season (writes Reserves joint Manager, Daz Smith)...

Player rotation and unavailability affected our travelling squad selection , Ben Jefferies stepped up to play in goal , whilst 16 year old Finn Sharp was called up from the under 18s, for his adult debut.

With Kizzy captaining the side in Paynos absence, a fast start was the managements request as we looked to fly out of the blocks and grab a goal as early as possible.

Thankfully we didn't have to wait long. A drilled Harvey cross saw new signing TJay Price (who was making his second appearance in a Penzance shirt) arrive into the box and smash his shot into the goal leaving the Perranwell keeper no chance.

0-1

Moments later, the in form Freddie Neaum grabbed himself a goal as he crept into the box from the left and slammed his effort into the far corner giving us a two goal cushion.

0-2

However Perranwell wouldn't roll over and whilst counter attacking earned themselves a free kick on the edge of our box. Despite Ben's best efforts, the shot squealed away from him and gave Perranwell hope of a come back as we headed in to half time 1-2 up.

Halftime 1-2

As always a reminder to shorten our passing up and patience was the half time team talk, as we looked to again start quickly and bring 3 points back with us.

Ten minutes into the second half, Freddie Neaum grabbed his second after a neat one-two with Andy. The young starlet raced through and cleverly dinked the onrushing Perranwell keeper scoring the goal of the game.

1-3

Our two goal lead didn't last long though as a goal mouth scramble in our box saw Perranwell grab another goal back...

2-3

Andy and Joeys games were done as on stepped Finn Sharp and Sam Payne, bringing some energy back into midfield, which saw the classy Tjay drop into a CDM roll.

Almost immediately a straight through ball, saw Kizzy sprint clear and coolly slot his effort past the keeper giving us our two goal lead back.

2-4

Lewis Hitchens began to come into the game more and more as we looked to pin Perranwell back, and after a clever switch of play thanks to Finn, Lewis began a mazy run and was eventually chopped down on the edge of the box earning us a free kick.

Up stepped Sam Payne. He whipped his effort around the wall with such venom, that his shot proved too hot to handle for the keeper as we sailed into a 2-5 lead, and that was how it finished.

FT. 2-5

Massive well done to the lads yesterday, who at times got the ball down and played some superb football. We were unlucky not to come away with a few more goals including a goal from Matt Robinson which was wrongly given as offside. But credit to the Perranwell keeper for making some fantastic saves and keeping the score line respectable.

Man of the match was a close battle between Tjay and Freddie. TJay put a real shift in for the team, and his selfless attitude , whilst putting the team first was exemplary.

However just pipping him to the award is Freddie. Freddie was absolutely class. His natural ball carrying ability, his understanding of when to beat a man and when to keep it simple, and to top it off , his finishing yesterday sees him rightfully earn the Man of the match award.
