With the Reserves playing their final fixture, away to Redruth United last Saturday, the season is now over for Penzance’s senior teams.
It has certainly been an enjoyable campaign with both sides making good progress on the pitch. In his first season as Manager, Ashley Waters, assisted by Head Coach Matt James and Director of Football Craig Nicholls, steered the South West Peninsula side to ninth – its highest placing since season 2010-11. They only missed out on a top half finish on goal difference, and also reached the quarter-finals of the Cornwall Senior Cup.
Under Darren Smith and Lee Major, the Reserves matched last season’s excellent effort of a fourth place finish – this time in the new St Piran League Division Two West. Importantly though, several young players graduated to the first team and performed with great credit.
Off the field, a new lease on Penlee Park has been secured from Penzance Town Council thanks to the tireless negotiatings of chairman Godfrey Adams. This has allowed development of the ground to start with the most notable improvement being the re-roofing of the main stand which was successfully completed in the Autumn.
The average attendance for home first team games was 136 – a good improvement on 2022-23’s figure of 111 and the fifth highest in our division. So the club would like to place on record its thanks to the loyal supporters as well as all sponsors and advertisers who are helping to push the club forward.
A celebration of this enjoyable season will take place on Friday (May 17th) with the club’s annual Presentation Evening. This is a ticket-only event with a three course meal, the club awards and entertainment.
If you have not already booked your ticket, please contact Godfrey Adams on 07971 064383 or Charlie Farley on 07754 784140.
