Tyler Tonkin has been called into the Kernow FA squad for this Sunday's fixture against the Chagos Island. It represents a huge honour for the Penzance captain as he is one of only five South West Peninsula League players to be selected for what is Kernow's first match.
They beat Sapmi last July to qualify for the finals of the CONIFA World Cup.
That tournament was due to be staged in Kurdistan this summer, but was postponed until 2025 due to the unstable situation in the host country. Sunday's fixture gives Tonkin the chance to push his claim for a place in the finals squad.
"I'm looking forward to getting involved," says Tonkin. I haven’t been at my best for the past year or so due to injuries, but I feel like I’m getting back to near that now. Matt and Cheesy have had a big part to play in that, pushing us in training and making us the best we can be, so a big thanks to them for that. I always feel privileged to be called up for my county - it  will be a good day “
Wadebridge's Sam Gerken, James Lorenz and Dan Jennings of Liskeard, and Newquay's Louis Price are the other Step Six representatives in a squad otherwise made up of National, Southern and Western League players.
The game is being staged at Liskeard Athletic's Lux Park, kicking off at 1.30pm. Tickets are available on the gate or online.
Good luck Tyler, do the Magpies proud!
