Penzance extended their unbeaten away run to eleven games and moved up to third in the table, a single point behind leaders Newquay, by virtue of a hard fought goalless draw at Truro City’s new stadium.
Manager Mark Vercesi made one change to the side that had beaten Holsworthy on Saturday, restoring Jacob Trudgeon to the starting line-up in place of Lewis Caspall, absent with work commitments. The Magpies enjoyed a lot of possession in the early stages, but did not create a clear chance until the 15th minute when Tyler Tonkin set up Liam Andrew, but his central defensive partner hooked the ball over the bar. At the other end, Mikey Flores twice denied Jack Bowyer with fine saves, whilst Owen Rosevear headed over when well placed just before the break.
Torrential rain greeted the players as they emerged for the second half. Bowyer dipped a shot just over whilst Owen Royes had an effort deflected wide. As the surface became wetter, Penzance’s chances were scarce until Charlie Young found himself in on goal thirteen minutes from time, but was denied by a brave save. Morgan Jones then thwarted the striker again in injury-time with an even better block. City raced down the other end and had a glorious chance to win it themselves, but Flores rescued Penzance with yet another great save from Bowyer, and the points were shared.
“It was another competitive game against a really fit and well organised Truro team,” said Vercesi. “I think both teams will be rueing missed chances and saying ‘what if?’. But that’s football! Another clean sheet and another game to add to our unbeaten run."
