Despite dominating the guts of the game, a nightmare start and a wobbly finish saw Penzance settling for a share of the spoils from a second hugely entertaining encounter in eight days against Wadebridge Town.
There were just 33 seconds on the clock when Tom Savigar played in Kyle Flew to fire past Mikey Flores. It was his second goal in just three minutes against the Magpies having bagged Wadebridge’s equaliser deep in injury-time at Penlee Park a week earlier. Sadly for striker, his luck was to change. Injury forced his early retirement and Penzance recovered to gradually assume control. Set up by Charlie Young, Curtis Smith plonked a delightfully curled shot against the cross-bar. The rebound was prodded behind by the Wadebridge defence and, from the resultant corner, Charlie Young forced home an equaliser via a heavy deflection.
With the momentum, and the wind behind them after the turnaround, Penzance were on top. They deservedly took the lead in the 54th minute when Jacob Trudgeon headed home a delicious cross from the left by Smith. Charlie Young saw a header from a corner by his brother Sam blocked, then Rob Rosevear denied Lewis Caspall with an excellent save.
Brook Williams, son of former Magpies keeper Paul, was handed a debut as a 67th minute substitute for Trudgeon. The sixteen year old forward made a nuisance of himself as the visitors attempted to put the game to bed. But their failure to do so proved costly as, against the run of play, Tom McLachlan tucked home a pass from Connor Mewton, Flew’s early replacement, to level the scores. Buoyed by this, Wadebridge bossed the final ten minutes and Jacob Smale twice looked odds-on to score a winner only to be denied firstly by a post then a brave Flores smother.

“It was another game where we have dropped points from a leading position,” rued Penzance manager Mark Vercesi. “That’s the story of our season that we need to work to rectify. But on balance over the two games with Wadebridge, sharing the points is probably a fair outcome.”
