WEEKLY YOUTH ROUND-UP

Seven of Penzance’s youth teams were in action on Sunday. The Under-8 Lions hosted Wendron United whilst the Under-10 Jaguars travelled to Goonhavern. Their Player of the Match was Morgan. The Under-10 Lynxes entertained East Wheal Rose with their Player of the Match being Monty. Star performer for the Under-11 Pumas was Presley as they took on Illogan RBL, also at Newlyn Coombe.

The Under-14s suffered a narrow 3-4 defeat at Wendron United. Kirby nabbed a couple of goals with Riley getting the other. Man of the Match was Finleigh. The Under-16s bowed out of the Cornwall FA’s Luke Cup going to Newquay at Tretherras School with Harry being picked as Star Man.

Also suffering County Cup disappointment were the Under-18s, who were edged out of the Rathbone Trophy in a see-saw tie at sun-drenched Penlee Park. The Ashes took an early lead but, by half-time, the Magpies had turned it around with an Eli Maddern header then a first goal for the team by right-back Riley Walter (pictured). Saltash hit back strongly after the break, however, netting two further goals to edge it 3-2.
