WENDRON UNITED 5, PENZANCE 2

As in the previous meeting between between these two sides, back in February, Penzance squandered a two goal lead whilst looking set to pull off a noteworthy result.

Making light of the absences of captain Tyler Tonkin and regular starter Jacob Trudgeon, the Magpies stunned their hosts by racing into a two goal lead inside the opening half hour. Archie Reynolds released Oscar Massey down the right after eleven minutes and, though Ethan Fearn parried the striker's shot, Rolandos Samnauskas was on hand to tickle the rebound over the line. Kam Collins then bravely bundled a Frazer Cadman free kick home to put the visitors in a commanding position, sustaining a painful collision with the goal frame in so doing.

From another Cadman dead ball, Samnauskas flashed a fine volley just wide, perhaps the game's turning point. Instead of being three up, within seconds the margin was just one, Charlie Young forcing the ball over the line after numerous ricochets in the six yard box.

Collins was unable to resume after the break. Although Massey would have extended the lead but for a fine low save by Fearn, the game began to slip away from Penzance. They were pegged back to level terms when Reece Carroll's speculative effort from wide of the left took a cruel deflection off Mark Vercesi leaving Mikey Flores wrong-footed. A trade-mark turn and shot by Charlie Young put the Dron ahead, and the lead was extended when Josh Wood followed up after Flores saved a Lucas Potts attempt.

Further injuries were sustained by Massey and Alfie Turner forcing Ashley Waters to use all five substitutes including keeper Will Trenoweth as an emergency right back. It was therefore little surprise that Wendron extended their winning margin, Charlie Young completing his hat trick with a far post finish.
