DISABILITY TEAMS MAKE FLYING START

Penzance’s Disability sides enjoyed a very successful first tournament of the new season at Camborne College on Sunday September 13th.

Due to a rule change voted in by the clubs, teams with players participating in main stream football can no longer play in the Championship, only the Premiership. Penzance players elected to stick together, and move up to the top division.

Despite playing at the higher level, they still won two of their three games, defeating Trelawny 3-1 and Speak Out United 3-2, but losing 3-5 to South West inclusive. That latter game was a lot closer than the scoreline suggested. It was 3-3 going into the final minutes of the match when SWI scored a fourth. Penzance pushed forward for an equaliser, and were caught on the break for a fifth. In the final match against Speak Out, a miraculous goal-line clearance by Conor Allen kept the score at 3-2. All nine Premiership goals for Penzance on the day were scored by Connor Thomas. It was a very encouraging start, and great credit to all the players for their teamwork and commitment at this level.

The League team were equally impressive winning four out of four. They beat St Agnes 4-0 with goals from Wes Hall, Peter Smith, Zac McClaskey and Cameron Charman. Keltek B and Keltek A were both then defeated 2-1 with McClaskey scoring twice in each match. Finally Brandon Trust were beaten 6-0. Hall hit four goals with McClaskey and Charman getting the others. It was a very good all-round performance. Manager Andy Farley gave everyone match time and, with a surplus of players, Penzance may field two teams at League level when the main competition starts in October.
