YOUTH FOOTBALL RETURNS
Penzance Youth returned to action at the weekend with the eight of the clubs ten teams contesting their opening matches of the new campaign on Sunday.
The newest and youngest side - the Under-8 Lions - travelled to Wendron United, whilst the Under-9 Tigers were at Culdrose. The Under-10 Jaguars, for whom Harvey was Man of the Match, had a local derby away to Ludgvan Lions. The Under-10 Lynxes were at Perranporth with Charlie collecting the Man of the Match award. The Under-11 Pumas went to St Day, and Leo was their star performer.
At Newlyn Coombe, the Under-12 Cosmos kicked off with a resounding 7-2 victory over St Agnes. A hat-trick helped Luke earn the Man of the Match accolade. Sonny scored twice with Freddie M and Bodhi nabbing the others. The Under-14s were also big winners – 5-1 at Helston Athletic with five different scorers – Joke, Kirby, Joe, Caleb and Alex. Their Man of the Match was Jamie. Finally, the Under-15s were edged out by the odd goal in three by Ludgvan Lions at the Coombe. Enzo was on target with Marcus being named Man of the Match.
The Jaguars, Lynxes, Cosmos and Under-14s are all at the Coombe next Sunday (September 20th) playing Falmouth United, Holmans, Newquay and Illogan RBL respectively. The day’s other action sees the two oldest age groups kick-start their seasons. The Under-16 Titan travel to Clijah Croft to take on Redruth United at 11am. In the afternoon, the Under-18s have a Rathbone Trophy tie away to St Day – 2pm at the Vogue.
