WEEKLY YOUTH ROUND-UP

Six of Penzance Youth’s ten teams were in action on Sunday – four of them at Newlyn Coombe. The Under-10 Lynxes played Holmans with Sonny nominated as Player of the Match. The Under-10 Jaguars hosted Falmouth United, and their star player was Henry T. The Under-12 Cosmos were edged out 3-4 in a thriller against Newquay with Luke scoring all the goals and, understandably, being selected as Player of the Match. Caleb picked up the award for the Under-14s who were 9-0 winners at home to Illogan RBL. Kirby struck a double hat-trick. Alex, Finleigh and Own-Goal accounted for the others.

On the road, the Under-16s Titans kicked off their season with a hard-earned 5-2 win at Redruth United. Jensen fired them into an early lead that was soon doubled by Caleb, then Kai made it three. The home side pulled one back before Kai got his second of the game just before the break. Redruth struck again in the second half but, just before the end, Zac deflected home a shot from Caleb. Playing his first game up front having previously operated in defence, Caleb was selected as Man of the Match by coach Sue Morse.

The Under-18s also played their first competitive match of the season, winning 5-0 at St Day to progress to the Second Round of the Rathbone Trophy. With a clever lob from a long punt by captain and keeper Harvey Parsons, Noah Morton gave the Magpies an early lead. Dylan McKeown stroked home a Jago Jackson pass for the second. Morton netted again before, heading home a corner, Jackson made at four just before the break. A header from substitute Kupa Muvhevhi was the only addition to the score in the second half. For a solid performance at the back, Guan Martin was nominated by coaches James McKeown and Ryan Andrew as Man of the Match.

The Under-11 Pumas kick-off the action next weekend with a Saturday morning trip to Reen Manor to play Goonhavern. The following day, the Under-8 Lions travel to Holmans and the Under-9 Tigers to Kenwyn Park to take on Truro City Rockets. The Under-10 Lynxes play Redruth United at Clijah Croft, and the Under-12 Cosmos are also away – at Troon. The Under-16s are home to Culdrose with the Under-18s bringing down the curtain on another busy weekend. They take on St Agnes at Chiverton Park (2pm) – their first league fixture of the new season.
