YOUTH ROUND-UP
The Under-11 Pumas kicked off another busy weekend for Penzance's youth sides playing Goonhavern at Reen Manor on Saturday morning, Flynnre being named Man of the Match. Five teams were in action the following day, all away from home. Flo was Man of the Match as the Under-8 Lions played Holmans, whilst Luca picked up the award for the Under-9 Lynxes at Redruth United. Luke was unlucky enough to score a hat-trick on a losing side as the Under-12 Cosmos were edged out 3-4 by Troon. Their Man of the Match was Oliver. Coincidentally, the Under-16 Titans also lost by the odd goal in seven at Troon. Theo scored and picked up the Man of the Match award. The other goals were netted by Jenson and Bailey.
On Sunday afternoon the Under-18s travelled to Mount Ambrose to kick-off their League campaign with a fixture against St Agnes. Despite falling behind to an early goal, they backed up the previous week's Rathbone Trophy win at St Day with a convincing 4-1 victory. Eli Maddern levelled with powerful shot that took a slight deflection then, on the stroke of half-time, Will Reid stabbed the ball home at the third attempt after two shots were blocked. With a cool one-on-one finish, then an emphatic back post header, Reid completed his hat-trick after the break to secure the points.
Next Sunday the Under-8 Lions play Hayle, the Under-10 Jaguars have a St Anthony Trophy First Round tie against tie against Ludgvan Lions, the Under-11 Pumas take on Culdrose and the Under-12 Cosmos are up against Truro City - all at Newlyn Coombe. The Under-14s will look to extend their 100% start to the season when they travel to Camborne College to take on Troon Vipers (4pm kick-off). The Under-15s have a long journey to play Padstow United at Jury Park (11am) in the League Cup. Finally, back at Newlyn Coombe, the Under-16 Titans have a Cornwall FA Luke Cup tie against Truro City (11am).
